A powerful read: Christian Bookaholic review

Christian Bookaholic has reviewed ‘A Question of Loyalty’ by Gillian Poucher

On the lead up to summer, we know how important it is to find a great book or two, to take on holiday. The latest review by Christian Bookaholic, looks at what to expect from Gillian Poucher’s gripping second novel, without giving away the story itself.

A Question Of Loyalty by Gillian Poucher is a powerful contemporary Christian suspense that totally consumed me from the start.

Gillian Poucher has created a set of very realistic characters who are easy to relate to and empathise with. We see characters who are struggling with various aspects of life that are relevant to us all today. The characters have realistic flaws making them believable.

We see the light of Jesus shining through a character. No matter that life has been tough for him, he still looks out for others. Sometimes angels are just humans in clothes with kind hearts and Jesus living in them and through them.

God sends people across our paths for a reason. “The retired priest was convinced that individuals come into our lives for a reason.” God knows just who we need, where and when.

About the book

Professional counsellor Julia Butler is struggling to put her life back together. Her ex-partner Greg has left her for a younger woman, and his financial irresponsibility has put her at risk of losing her home. In addition, a recently-discovered relationship between her late mother and an R.A.F. Wing Commander has revealed new family members, including a half-sister with mental health issues. Julia’s only support is her warm-hearted colleague Pete, and they are now in a relationship together.

After Julia’s half-sister dies, she tries to find purpose in her life by providing a home and support to her troubled half-niece, Grace. But Grace and her baby daughter Emmeline prove to be more than a handful for Julia, especially when Grace seems to follow the pattern of delusion and paranoia that her mother did. Julia’s relationships will all feel the strain as she tries to make sense of Grace’s condition whilst trying to handle a manipulative client in her counselling work.
