Author David Flanders Receives High Sheriff’s Award
Derek Thomas MP is the keynote speaker at David Flanders’ book launch
50 Christian leaders, friends and family members met together at Trethorne Leisure Park, from all over Cornwall, for the book launch of the much anticipated Lockdown Talks by David Flanders.
The event included speakers Luke Jeffery (Managing Director of Onwards and Upwards Publishers), Mark Thomas (High Sheriff of Cornwall), Derek Thomas MP (keynote) and David Flanders (author).
During the pandemic, David Flanders produced a daily devotional series of short video talks, shared on Facebook and watched by hundreds of people across the world every day. During the book launch David’s Daughter, Joanna Waters, read a sample of the comments from all over the world written in appreciation of the online talks.
To David’s suprise, the High Sheriff presented him with a High Sheriff’s Award for ‘great and valuable services to the community on behalf of the people of Cornwall’.
Derek Thomas MP spoke eloquently highlighting sections of the book that had spoken to him personally. He said that in the talks on Joseph, David’s observation that Joseph maintained a good attitude and used his time wisely was advice that he would carry with him to parliament and indeed the rest of his life. He commented that this was obviously something that David had done in the lockdown.
Luke Jeffery gave a commendation on David’s writing, telling the gathering that “David is a master-chef of the word of God”.
