Daily readings and meditations for Advent and Christmas

Advent is a time when the excitement of Christmas begins to build. The shops are stocked, the TV advertisements are in overdrive and the windows of the Advent calendar reveal each day another chocolate delight.

But, of course, Advent is really about preparing our hearts to celebrate how God stepped into the world in the person of our saviour Jesus. Becky Lovatt invites us to join her on a journey through the Bible, exploring the thoughts and feelings of some of the people touched by God, so that we too can deepen our relationship with him.

This book presents daily meditations for Advent and Christmas, offering new insights into well-known stories. Each meditation is accompanied by a scripture reading, questions offered for reflection, an action to reinforce the message and a prayer.

“…refreshingly contemporary in its style, yet it also draws from the deep wells of the great historic traditions of Christian spirituality.”

Rev. Dr Jonathan H. Pye

Chair, Bristol District of the Methodist Church

About the Author

Becky Lovatt is a Methodist Deacon living and working in East Devon. She holds a Master’s Degree in Theology and Ministry, and is passionate about reaching out to those on the margins of traditional church.

Becky is very proud of her Cornish roots, and enjoys returning home when she can to take in the beauty of the coastline. Having been brought up in a Christian family, her faith took on new meaning in 1994 when she began to work at Camp Stapleton, a camp for underprivileged girls in Detroit, USA. Here Becky met with God and received a call into full time ordained ministry.

Becky is married to Tim, and they have a son, Theo, who is their pride and joy. In 2013, she published her first book of meditations for Lent and Holy Week entitled “In The Shadows of Victory: Ride The Rollercoaster of Holy Week”. Through the sales of this book she was able to raise a lot of money for the Baby Special Care Unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, in Reading, in memory of their still-born baby girl, Emerald.
