ABOUT THE AUTHOR
David Aston grew up in Lichfield, Staffordshire. He and his brother were taught amongst others by both parents at King Edward VI School. His father was ordained while still a teacher, and later became a prison chaplain.
Having studied Computing Science with German, David moved to Congleton, Cheshire, in 1988 after two spells living in Germany. A third followed from 1992 to 1995, in Bubenreuth near Erlangen, Bavaria. He has helped with, and run, mainly church youth groups in both places for much of this time.
In 1999, after four years as a freelance software engineer and in his free time helping to rig World Wide Message Tribe concerts, David had the opportunity to join the events team of the Message Trust full-time. This Manchester-based Christian charity has expanded to do schools, prison, mobile and fixed-location youth and social work all over the city and beyond.
The Operations team gave him plenty of scope to build stage-sets, operate stage camera and learn live vision mixing. For the final three years, he looked after Fleet & Facilities, with various building projects (and still some stage-set) satisfying his creative streak. Where possible, he wrote programs to do his paperwork! Working on cars, however, he preferred his own fleet of A-Series-powered Austin-RoversÖ
Mid-2010 David felt it was time to leave the Message, but didnít get the youth worker job at his church as hoped (though a year later became its parish administrator, a role he loves). Instead, God unexpectedly gave him a completely new area of creativity: creative writing!
