Jesus on Health and Healing

Jesus on Health and Healing

£1.99£10.99

David Muskett provides short, easily digestible sermons exploring the many healing miracles of Jesus, and what they teach us about the Kingdom of God.

“Jesus went throughout Galilee ... proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people.”

When Jesus wanted to teach people about the Kingdom of God, he often used illustrations – sometimes in the form of parables, but at other times through miraculously meeting the needs of the people he encountered.

In a post-pandemic society, understanding Gods purpose through healing is particularly relevant. David’s teachings will encourage us to look more carefully at what God is doing in our own lives too, and ask, “What’s it all about then?”

Once again David has produced a book which takes key themes of Jesus’ teaching in the Gospels and helps the reader explore them more fully. He weaves areas of the UK healthcare system, along with the challenges of a pandemic, into the accounts of health and healing that Jesus was involved in, and enables us to reflect on the clear message for our own lives today. David creates that bridge, which is vital when reading the Bible, to help make the link between Scripture and our everyday life. I also value the way that David draws our attention to the context in which the different Gospel accounts are set, so enabling us to see the bigger picture and the relevance of the teaching which impacts on many aspects of society. I found the book, in places, challenging me to re-think my role in God’s Kingdom as well as that part of my ministry lived out in the life of the Church. I can imagine that, as well as being of value to the individual reader and explorer of faith, this book would provide a useful foundation for small bible study groups.

In clear, simple language, David in this book invites us to reflect deeply on Jesus the healer. Health and healing, or lack of them, concern people now as in Jesus’ day. David’s unfolding of what Jesus said and did then helps us to see what he is poised to do today.

As with his previous books, David Muskett manages to combine a helpful analysis of the text, the context and cultural background of the chosen miracles in each short chapter. In ‘Jesus on Health and Healing’ there is a wealth of suitably thematic material to help preachers searching for ways to illustrate and apply the miracles of Jesus.
