The fall of Communism had a great impact on the underground Christian church. For the first time, Bibles became widely available, gatherings of Christians were permitted and the Western church was able to connect with Christians from the East, bringing encouragement and financial help. Attitudes also began to change towards those who had been considered ‘non-productive’ under the Communist regime.
Cornel experienced all of this first-hand. Suffering from a deblitating chronic illness, he had little hope of a meaningful future. But when a young woman, Catalina, stood against her culture to express Christ-like compassion for him, both of their lives were about to change dramatically.
The book shows how trust in God is rewarded in ways which are often miraculous.

John Miles has an interesting background, giving him an insight into life in the Soviet Union. His own story, Are We Nearly There Yet?, is a fascinating account of journeys with his family, who started asking that question not long after starting the journey! Journeys were taking Bibles to Communist countries when it was not possible for Christians to buy them in bookshops. He has also written about the terrible events in Northern Uganda through the ‘Lord’s Resistance Army’, Overcoming the Powers of Hell, and also about the Rwanda genocide of 1994, Rwanda Rising from the Ashes.
I commend this book about the way God worked in the life of two young Romanians who, through much suffering and pain, were married and made a new life in the UK near friends who had helped them cope with their suffering in Romania. The book shows how trust in God is rewarded in ways which are often miraculous.
