Rob Allwright shares his honest impressions of 'Daniel's Painting'
Author David Houghton has published his first children’s novel, Daniel’s Painting, and Rob Allwright begins his review by pointing out David’s unusual but successful transition from being a lawyer in Financial Services, into the world of being an author of children’s books.
He then delves straight into his first impressions of the book:
“The cover and the illustrations take me right back to those days when I was learning to read, all that long time ago. It instantly feels familiar before you even turn the page to actually start the story.”
Speaking on the page layout and rounded font, it “looks welcoming to the less confident reader and may even help those with dyslexia.”
Rob shares about the narrative of the book and picks up on the fact that the character Daniel is the middle child, and the story reflects some feelings that the middle child may often experience.
As the narrative continues it soon becomes clear that encouragement is the key theme of the book and that maybe it is not just a lesson for children.
“Books like this are obviously intended with a teaching point for children about encouragement and the difference it can make to someone else, but perhaps us parents need to take a little bit of time out to remember how much a word of encouragement means to our children.”

About the Book
Daniel’s Painting
