Growing up at the centre of a large, happy family in South Africa, Colleen became a Christian at age fifteen. As her relationship with the Lord deepened, so did her desire to share him with others throughout the changing seasons of her life. As a young teacher she married, became a mother to a family of five and enjoyed thirty-two wonderful years with her husband Peter Hurd before his sudden death in 1992.
After working for four years as Hostess at the African Enterprise Centre, she was on the pastoral team in her church for eight years. During that time she responded to the call to take the gospel across the world by accompanying teams to several countries on short term missions. Answering the Abrahamic call in 2004 to leave family and homeland she accompanied a young couple to Hove, England, to support them in leading a church plant.
Later, at Brighton & Hove City Mission, Colleen led team ministry to elderly residents through monthly services in Rest Homes, before transferring to another aspect of the Mission to help clients in crisis who are referred to the Brighton Food Bank.
