About the Author

Ian Caveen
Originally from Chester, Ian Caveen became a Christian while studying architecture at Sheffield University, through the ministry of the Navigators. He met his wife, Pam, when worshipping at Christ Church, Fulwood, Sheffield, where they were married in 1980. He graduated the same year, obtaining an MA, and started his professional career working in Oldham, Greater Manchester. He and Pam moved to St Bees, Cumbria, in 1985, where their two sons were born. Since 1988 East Ardsley, Wakefield, has been their home.
Ian’s song-writing started in 1990 when he found himself out of work. This then developed into poetry when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2017. Due to his Parkinson’s, Ian took early retirement but was invited to stay on as a consultant. The following year, he was also diagnosed with bladder cancer. Although the cancer treatment has been successful, the side effects have been debilitating. The coronavirus pandemic shutdown in 2020 finally forced him into full retirement.
Ian is currently a Local Preacher with the North Kirklees & Morley Circuit, and he and Pam are members of West Ardsley Methodist Church, where they are also involved with the AWE worship group and Messy Church.
Endorsements and Reviews
The Reverend John C. Trevenna
I have known Ian for over 20 years, and heard and read his poems during that period. When I became a Supernumerary Minister in 2006 I sat under Ian’s preaching on a number of occasions and have heard him use his poems as songs, accompanying himself on the guitar (sadly because of the advance of Parkinson’s, he is no longer able to do that). I believe that his work is inspired by the Holy Spirit and will be upbuilding for preachers, Christians and those seeking their way to faith. I thoroughly endorse this book and trust that many will be blessed through its words – including Ian’s own testimony which it contains.

This collection of poems and reflections emerges from a lifetime of Christian faith by a man immersed in the scriptures. The tone is worshipful, addressing God with delight, joy and a desire to worship and serve. There is much that will encourage individual readers, as well as material to use in public worship. It is carefully arranged around the Christian Year and its major themes, enhanced by simple, beautiful art work. When you read the story of Ian’s faith in the final section, you will see where the poetry has its deep roots.
